Give your Labor Day Bash a theme!

You may already have themes or ideas for your Labor Day party, but if you’re still wondering, “What am I gonna do?” here are a few ideas to jump start your party planning.

  • Football Theme Party – Hand out whistles to your guest, and have them wear their favorite jerseys and colors. Run a contest for the most spirited guests. Decorate your apartment similar to a stadium, and have football themed plates and cups. This would be an excellent way to start the weekend with so many college teams playing.
  • Luau ThemeLuau theme? Yeah, why not? It’s Labor Day weekend. Your party doesn’t necessarily have to be a theme around Labor Day. Hand out leis to your guest as they come through the door and hand them tropical drinks (or beer, if that’s more you’re thing). Do a Hula dance with your party-goers, prepare the food in traditional Hawaiian style. This is a great theme if you can actually host the party near a beach.
  • Casino Theme Party – This is also a great theme especially if you have a Poker table. Host a Texas Hold ‘Em game and get your party guests in the right mood. Dress you apartment with Poker Chips to give it a fun touch!
  • Music or Decade Themes – This is an easily done party. Pick out your favorite decade and design a party around that! Include music from that decade. You can also design around a certain genre of music. Let’s say you’re really into rock ‘n’ roll, you can do an AC/DC or Led Zeppelin party. Of course, those are just examples!
  • Season Theme – And lastly, you can plan a season party. This would be an excellent option as we are saying goodbye Summer and hello to Fall! There are tons of great color schemes from the fall season that would make your Labor Day party a hit!

If you are hosting a party this weekend, we at Alpha Mill would love to see photos of your Labor Day Bash!

Cult Movie Mondays Lol, Actors Theatre in Charlotte in Funny
Free Monday movies, free popcorn, what else could you as for with Cult Movies

If you, like myself, always have a case of the Monday’s, there is a cure for your ailment.  The Actor’s Theatre in Charlotte is having a screening of ‘Back To School‘ as part of their Cult Movie Monday Theatre.

This Free Cult Monday Movie is…

Back To School, an 80’s iconic movie, stars the goofy Rodney Dangerfield as a self made millionaire who goes back to college, helps his son, woos a professor, and builds his own luxuriant dorm for his son and his buddies.

The plot is as ridiculous as the movie, but it does stand as one of the classic movies of the 80’s. The sardonic humor of Rodney Dangerfield is still as strong as his performance in ‘Caddyshack‘ coupled with the talent of Robert Downey Jr., Sam Kinison, and a special appearance from the wonderful Kurt Vonnegut (author of Slaughterhouse Five).

Cult Movie Monday Theatre shows their movies at Actor’s Theatre every Monday. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free along with popcorn. If you’re already looking to break those Monday Blues, visit Actor’s Theatre in Charlotte at 650 East Stonewall Street. That’s only a 7 min. drive from Alpha Mill Apartments in Charlotte! For more information, please call Actor’s Theatre at 704-342-2251.

Hey Alpha Mill Apartments, Do more than just go back to school in style go back to school with Free Gift  Money.  That’s right we are talking about College Grants.

You’ve got to believe that there is more money out there to help you pay for your college education. The majority of students are unable to just shell out $20,000 a year for their academic enhancement.  But that’s the reason why  scholarships, grants and student loans are available.

UNC Charlotte

University of North Carolina Charlotte

A Grant is Free Gift Money for College

Grants work a little differently thou from the other two. A scholarship and student loans you have to pay back.  The purpose of a college grant is to make educational financial funds available to students to help settle the cost of a college education.

We said earlier that you’ve got to believe that there is  money out there to help you pay for your college education, because if you don’t believe it then you won’t go after it.

College Scholarships.org is the perfect place to begin your search for college grants and it just might be the perfect place to end your search as well.

It doesn’t matter if you are a returning student or first time freshman, there is a college grant out there for you.  Explore the links above.  Remember a grant is a free gift so any extra is your’s to spend or invest how ever you choose.

Increase Your GPA With Ease When You…

College life can be very entertaining but that entertainment can sometimes distract us from our main objective.  It is important to not only know what our priorities are but to keep then near to us so that we wont forget.

First Things First

What are some things that you do to stay prioritized? I would like to offer you a few simple yet effective tips that can help you to stay focused, prioritize and increase your GPA with ease.

  • The first thing is to manage your time is to buy a large calender.  Don’t worry about the small to-do list, you can get a notepad for that.  But on the large calender write down your major goals and objectives for everyday a week at a time.  Place the calender somewhere  noticeable and in your face so that you can’t help but to see it everyday. This will keep your goals fresh in your mind.
  • You can increase your GPA with ease when you get the class syllabi read it carefully.  Treat this as an assignment that is do before the end of the first week.  Mark down any exams or important assignment dates and put them on your calender.
  • Some classes may require more time or reading than others.  Take that into consideration as you prioritize and plan your study-time.  Look over the schedule for the semester even marking any three-day weekends and, you’ve got it, add them to the calender.  Your calender will become your friend and by keeping it close and updated you will do more of the activities that are on it.

Remember this, no one ever sets an intention or makes a goal that they don’t expect to accomplish.  Your success is seated next to your priorities.  We hope that this guide has been helpful to all of you here at Alpha Mill Apartments.  For your school supplies, High Reach Learning can help.  They’ve got more then just children books.

The Robot of The Week Serves Cold Beer

July 13, 2010 by Keenan

The Jetsons started the idea of servant Robots,  Bender on Futurama took it to another level with Beer and now Willow Garage has brought it to reality.  Beer Me Robot- a Robot that serves cold beer.

With so many new digital gadgets and all of these innovative ways of using technology what could possibly be the best way to use this technology?  Over at Popsci they have a Robot of The Week where they feature some of the most interesting working robots in existence today.  Willow Garage was recognized for the Beer-Me-Bot last week.

The PR2 Robot that fetches beer from the refrigerator.

Willow Garage thought how good it would be to have a robot that could fetch beer.  There goal was to make beer fetching as robust and user-friendly as possible.   With so much brain power and technology I’m still not surprised that a real life Bender is the result.

It is quite amazing to have an idea, no matter how goofy it is, then use technology to actually make it happen.   I could just imagine some evenings on Friday’s working late in the office wishing that you had an ice cold one to sit back with.  No one may feel like getting up but every one wants a drink.  No worries here comes Beer Me Robot to the rescue!

Just watch this video and tell us what you think.  I think it’s great that this robot works properly but it just baffles me to see such great technology used on something so senseless.  The guys at Willow Garage can afford to build a robotic beer server but can they afford to build something that would contribute more significantly to our society or more positively in our economy?

Robotic equipment that can serve beer? See for yourself.
